Freshmen Move into CIU

Freshmen Move into CIU

The handoff. Current CIU students help new students and their families unload.

Columbia International University welcomed the Class of 2016 on Aug. 15.  That was the day that freshmen emptied their belongings from the stuffed hatchbacks and trunks of the family car and moved into their new home away from home – the residence halls of CIU.

Dozens of upperclassmen were on hand to help with the heavy lifting of suitcases, foot lockers, and a few things some of the newcomers couldn’t live without such as basketballs, stuffed animals and even a unicycle.  Other CIU students helped with the registration process, as they greeted the new students and answered the questions of anxious parents.

CIU freshmen attend a three-day orientation called “Connect: CIU” where they are introduced to campus life.  It includes meeting deans and professors, course registration and fun activities such as a Columbia Scavenger Hunt.

Classes at CIU begin on Aug. 21.
