CIU Professor Analyzes Religious Tensions in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia

In February, a Protestant pastor was abducted on the street in a town near the capital of Malaysia. Columbia International University adjunct professor, Dr. Peter Riddell says the kidnapping comes against a background of pressure against non-Muslims in the Southeast Asian country.

Riddell, who teaches Intercultural Studies at CIU, has analyzed the religious situation in Malaysia today, and says there is growing demand for Islamic criminal punishment codes, following decades of a multi-faith culture and economic prosperity in the country.

Read Riddell’s article, “ANALYSIS: Malaysia’s progressive Muslims want a secular future” published by Lapidomedia – Centre for Religious Literacy in Journalism.
